Membership in NYSGE

With more than 700 members, the New York Society for Gastroenterology and Endoscopy (NYSGE) is the largest regional endoscopic society in the United States. Membership includes professionals from every major teaching facility in the greater New York area as well as numerous private practitioners, GI fellows and other trainees.


Active Membership

Prerequisites for Active membership include 1) authentic medical licensure, and 2) special training and demonstrated skill in gastrointestinal endoscopy including at least one the following: esophagoscopy, gastroscopy, duodenoscopy, laparoscopy, or colonoscopy, to the satisfaction of the Council.

Specific requirements include completion of an application form and completion of reference forms from a sponsor. The sponsor must be an active member of the Society who has knowledge of the candidate’s character and endoscopic skill, or the applicant’s instructor in endoscopy or Chief of Service where he/she is currently performing endoscopy.

IMPORTANT: If you have previously created a Non-Member Physician record in our system, you must be completely logged out of your account before accessing the Membership Application.  If you are logged in as a Non-Member Physician, you will not be able to access the Membership Application. 

Trainee Membership

Prerequisites for trainee membership include 1) authentic medical licensure, and 2) completion of at least two (2) years of post-doctoral training and is continuing in a full time training program which includes gastrointestinal endoscopy under the supervision of a member of the Society or an instructor whose endoscopic credentials are acceptable to the Council.

Specific requirements include completion of an application form and completion of reference form by the trainee’s supervisor or instructor attesting to the candidate’s full time training status, which includes gastrointestinal endoscopy.

Medical residents and medical students may apply for trainee membership on a conditional basis.

Senior Membership

Senior members shall have all the privileges of Active members but they shall not be required to pay dues. On and after they have attained the age of sixty-five years, an Active member may on application to the Council, be named a Senior member provided they are not in arrears in their dues. 

Honorary Membership

The Council of the Society is authorized to confer Honorary membership in the Society on any physician, scientist, or lay person whom they consider worthy of this recognition because of outstanding contributions to the field or gastrointestinal endoscopy or related fields.
